VILLAGE STUDY WITH SPECIFIED PROBLEM - II

Kambarganive

Monday early morning our journey has started again for

 village study

with our topics. While going we discussed where we have to

stay at that time and what are our

topics and how should we collect information? Form villagers. Should we go alone?

Or with group? For collecting information. These all answers we got and it was good for

 better learning the things. My

thinking was if we would have divided and sent alone to study a village is it possible for us? And at that situation some how we faced real challenge about village

study.

We got down by bus at 10:30a.m. and from Alnavar

cross by walk we went to Kambarganive it was 3 kilometers path. In between that there was a

huge amount of trees jungle. Forest is having 60% trees (Bamboo, tamarind) and formers land was there and they grow crops in that land totally it is a forest

aria and one

forest office was there to protect it.

            First we entered into

school and met to the class teacher, and spent some time with

 children in recreational

activities. We found many hidden talents in them. We visited

 few

houses for collecting data. After that we went to that home where we stayed last time. We had our dinner with those family

members. It was like while my mummy cooking I had meals.

In night we discussed about topic related

information. Next two days we collected information and spent some hours with children in school.

GOAL CONCEPT IN STUDENTS
We have instructed them through introducing our self; behind it our intention is to make them aware about further education. We told them, they have to introduce with their goal. It made them to think about their goal and “How they should put their efforts to reach that goal”. and We have given details about some courses which one they have to chose for reaching their goal.

How to conserve it? Masagi invention's are innovative things and those are low cost modules.

Water conservation method should implemented in each and every corner of our nation.

VILLAGE STUDY WITH SPECIFIED PROBLEM

KAMBARGANAVI
17th Feb is for village stay moving day, I woke-up at 5:30 for packing my luggage to stay in village and I won’t prefer more luggages for staying out side, I think some things we can get easily and without them also we can manage. At 7: 45 we (Chandrasekhar, Usha, Fathima, Savita and myself) left hostel and we went to have our Tiffin in the corner of Guesthouse street. It was good time with our friends because all were excited about village stay and while having Tiffin we wished one to another for spending NICE time in village.

We caught Dharvad bus and while going Chandrasekhar has introduced many new places because by that way I was passing first time, he is from Hubli, so he knows very well about this region and one good thing he always wants to give his knowledge by words to others. We arrived at Dharvad bus stand at 9:15 we waited for 20 minutes to catch our next bus, we stepping into RAMAPUR bus as per chinnababu’s instruction we went to that village, when we got down by bus we were in confusion whom to contact? And we were in RAMPUR bus stop. There were few pan shops and tea hotels those who were there looking at us by many questions? And Chandrasekhar took initiation and called to Chinnababu. He has given a number, I called on that number but it was in out of range. By seeing all these kind of activities one old man from that village came to us and asked about us. We told him we are from Hubli and we wanted to meet Basayyshetty. The old man took us to that home where the arrangements made by villagers to stay in that village for Fatima and Savita. They offered us for tea biscuits we had.

Basayyshetty and Manohar came and we introduced and told them “Chinnababu has told to contact you for going to Honnapur”. He told that in Honnapur there were elections going on so suppose some conflict will occur for this reason they have cancelled our village stay From Honnapur and selected KAMBARGANIVE to us. We told that we were ready to move and Basayyshetty dropped by bike me and Usha to KAMBARGANIVE Anganvadi and he went to take Chandrashekhar.

Anganvadi teacher hasn’t come but cook was there I consulted her and asked about teacher she told that the teacher went to dharwad for fair and ‘in those situations, she takes care those children’ but it was not in realty.

I and Usha has mingled with children and played counting and singing games. After that cook has prepared sweet rice for children and served them. Anganvadi has given some picture about village to me, many Muslim children were in Anganvadi by this I assumed in this village Muslims are in highest numbers.

Usha, Chandrashekhar and I, went with our specified topics to collect the information by villagers, our topics are -

· Usha - Health.
· Chandrashekhar - Sources of Income.
· Meenakshi – Education.
According to our topics we have collected information by villagers.

We introduced as social work students to villagers. We kept our luggage in one Muslim home where we visited first and they offered us for lunch, we had our lunch there.
Till evening we visited 10 houses and in the evening we made a friendship with B.Com. Student and he brought us to show where the construction was going on for school building and we visited to church. In church they are approaching to problems of villagers.
In night we had nice dinner and wrote our report and slept.

Second day
Early morning we woke-up and took bath and performed pooja. After having breakfast we went out to collect information.

This village is different from other villages because commonly in villages caste wise houses built in areas but here Muslims and Hindus houses were mixed and there is no differentiation. And both caste people have their own adjustments.

URDU MEDIUM SCHOOL

First we visited URDU medium school and we met Head miss in that school. I and Usha introduced our self. Head miss is so strong and her words inspired Usha a lot and she introduced herself as D.F. part. Chandrashekhar was with other sir in other class he introduced as a social work student and learner. At that time I got tension and went to Chandrashekhar and took him to office. And that sir also entered in office I introduced myself and I introduced Usha as our Guide. Than we thought now sitting there was inviting problems for our study so we left early from there.

            Ex-PRESIDENT

We visited GRAM PANCHAYAT Ex-PRESIDENT home in the evening and got some valuable data and information.

The Kambarganavi name is there since more than 50 years and it is famous for Tigers, Bears, Jaguars, Peacocks and thick Forest around the village. But now days the animals are not coming towards village because most of the land is used for cultivation. Out of 700acres of land approximately 500acres of the land is irrigated. Some of the villagers said that earlier there were many Pillars so it is called by Kambarganavi. Kambarganavi is having 85% of Muslims, and only 15% of the people are Hindus and there is no any particular reason for this. This village has no caste difference because the outsider has come to this village and built a Church and the place is donated by villagers to him/her.

Population

Village

Migrant from other place

Muslims

75%

10%

Hindus

10%

5%

So here majority of people in this village are Muslims and Hindus are very less, though there is no any issue between these two castes till now and they are very cooperative.

Ex-president of gram Panchayat has given us the examples of Developments done in his period such as:-

constructed houses for people who doesn’t have houses under Ashraya Yojana and Indira Awas projects, and he has conducted every month Gram Sabha to solve problems like street lights, drainage lines, and roads. He has supported the proper channelizing of ration given to the people and nutritional foods given to the children and pregnancy women. Fortnightly the Doctor has been called for treatment in the village. Villagers need to go for banking, higher schooling, and Primary Health Centre nearby the village called Aravatagi.

THIRD DAY

That was the last day of that visit so I thought cross verify my information, and as much as possible I had to collect information related to “women illiteracy”.

We set-out from home at 8:30 a.m. for visiting poultry, in that village there was a single poultry and it was well constructed all the facilities has provided for raring hens but only few hens they kept there and that business was in loss.

KANNADA MEDIUM SCHOOL

In kambarganive there is a Kannada Medium school and we visited that school. I wanted to know education system in that village. We met to school teachers and took permission to address 4rt, 5th and 6th class.

GOAL CONCEPT IN STUDENTS

I have instructed them through introducing myself, behind it my intention to make them aware about further education. I told them, they have to introduce them, with sharing their goal. It made them to think about their goal and “How they should put their efforts to reach that goal” and I have given details about some courses which one they have to chose for reaching their goal.

After noon we had lunch with school teachers and children. “AKSHAY PATRA” has sent that mid day meals.

Since afternoon till evening we went door to door to collect information regarding our topics. These all about my three days village stay details and now it is about my topic.

“WOMEN ILLITERACY”

In three different homes I got three different causes behind leaving their school or not getting literacy-

·        Widow women who lost her husband in the age of 19 and has 2 children.

One woman who has lost her mother and in home there is nobody to work.·        If she does higher education than her husband will become low in front of her. These three made me to select this topic for Village study.CAUSES BEHIND ILLITERACY BY VILLAGERS AND ACCORDING TO MY OBSERVATION –1. Language problem.2. Gender discrimination.3. Early marriage-            Early pregnancy, Population, Health problem.4. Transportation.5. Passing canal in rainy season.6. House hold works. My next step….What is the impact of illiteracy on woman life:-(Comparing literate and Illiterate)}  Health status. Child birth rate.}  Child joining to school.

"OUR STEP TOWARDS HELP TO VISIULLY CHALLENGED"

“DONT IGNORE IDEAS”

Objective: To work for BLIND CHILDREN-

Our ambition behind this leadership activity to help blind children, when we visited first time to blind school our heart said us do something for them. We thought a lot how can we help them and if we want to help them without money we can’t, what can we do for collecting money? I got an Idea but I thought it was flop idea! Nobody agree with me! And who will contribute money for all these? And later I realized from my friend’s words, that if I have any Idea doesn’t ignore it. And I shared with our friends. And they agreed and gave suggestions. "With the bulk of answers to face the questions", Gayatri, Savita, Chandrashekhar and I move towards for collecting money.

Our first collection starts from Guesthouse our dearest friend contributed and wished for future collection. It inspired us, and outside we didn’t leave a single person to ask the money, and we didn’t hesitated, many persons willingly contributed.

We went to grocery shop, barber, bakery, three apartments for collecting fund and we introduced our self and shared our intentions behind collecting money. More than 90% results were according to our expectations and remaining was OK! Some funny things happened with us.
Each single rupee is valuable amount for us, and anyone put money in our box our happiness level will increase and it touches our heart.

We amazed because today in this world persons like this are living with humanitarian heart.
“Our collected amount is Rs.600-700 and we thought to collect in next couple of weeks”
With the big support of each other’s willingly we enjoyed our activity.

VILLAGE VIEW BY VILLAGERS

MY First PRA Approach

As Chinnababu direction we divided into five groups each group had 4 members in team and 1 group had 5 members, we left Gram Chetana and started our journey to Bammsamudra, I though any vehicle or bus facility available to reach that village but it didn’t happen like that. 3 groups included 12 members had to go by that way. First our group has lived from Gram Chetana and Ajay, Jagdeesh, Laxmish and I, discussed about our village PRA activities. We planned How to conduct? and where to conduct?

Venn diagram
Last and the best thing were according to villager’s view we came to know about Importance and existence of govt. and non-govt. organizations. Those are-
School.
Bank.

Police Station.
PHC Center.
Anganvadi etc....
About these we collected information from villager.

· School has 230 children and 7 teachers.
· Infrastructure needs improvement, lacks urinals, class rooms and compound.

Indigenous technologies-
- Production of Ajola.
-Adoption of kitchen garden.
-Use of bio fertilizer.
AME is training the farmers to adopt Indigenous Technology.

Hidden Tilents Interaction-
In a family three brothers are good in Classical music and ornaments like Tabala, Tamboori and Harmonium.

Adult Male person good at carpentry, has special skills of doing interiors and special designs

Challenges:

Could not involve women for group activities with men.
Gathering of villagers as much as required for participation.
Villagers’ expectations.
Collecting attention.
Our team Learning:

Castism is not followed by villagers;
They celebrate all festivals together.
Language is important for deep interaction with villagers.
Villagers have talent but they are not getting the platform to enrich their hidden talents. Attitude towards women is gender biased.
Cattle are much more costly compared to north India.
Pre-planning and some knowledge about villages is must before using PRA techniques.

MY OBSERVATIONS AND LEARNING:

· I thought earlier they use traditional methods in agriculture and villagers don’t know any kind of technology.
-I came to know that they know indigenous technologies for cultivating.
· I didn’t know about chikku trees it forms in land because earlier I didn’t see in our land.
-It was a good plan, and I interacted as my personal interest to grow the Chikku in our land at Bidar.
· About Shastriy Sangeet I didn’t have any interest and listing it was headdack but yesterday we went to find uncommon things in village and the thing we got Shastriy Sangeet, there were three brothers who know it. By listening their song and in the age of 50, 52, 55 their interest towards classic music caught my interest.

GRAM CHETANA

10 feb 2009
Morning 9 o’clock to 12:30 we spent our time in Village stay preparations. After that we started our journey from hubli to “GRAM CHETANA(BAIF) before going there I would not imagine such a cool place they are bringing us. When I saw it, I thought it is a “Heaven on Earth” and each and every thing, plants, rooms, has “it own meaning”. Some kind of supernatural power has made these all things. All the natural things I felt in Gram Chetana. Thanks Naveen for giving such a wonderful moment.

Deepak sir(Bharatiya Agro Industries Developmental Research Foundation) told their own experience working with community people. They struggled lot to fulfill the Vision of BAIF. How they worked in PRA exercise? How they got confidence by people? All these things they shared with us. Initially it was too difficult and there is no shortcut to get participation from them but it was not impossible, through working hard they built good rapport, then their work become easy. They completed their project with success. Building Gram Chetana was dream but with the help of WADI project people it came into real success.

Ding-Dong Night

After PRA we came back to "GRAM CHETANA". It was night 9 o’clock we had our dinner, and our Camp fire was organized. We enjoyed with Naveen and Chinnababu, all were James bond in our class. “Antakshari” playing I liked a lot. Nice friends, Nice Night, Nice Climate, Marvelous Mood, Nice songs, Nice Dance….

SCHOOL BASED LEADERSHIP ACTIVITY

SCHOOL BASED ACTIVITIES

On saturday FEB 14th 2009 Fatima, Lata, Malini and I planned and as our plan we all got ready at 9:00 a.m. and went out to convert our activity in action.

I. "URDU MEDIUM SCHOOL"

First we started our Leadership activity in urdu medium school. This school has started in the year 1935, and it has Ist std. to IVrt std. these classes are conducting in MOSQUE, and there is only one room and all the classes conduct there.

The school is lacking in infrastructure, it doesn’t have building, and in that area building construction work stopped in the ending stage. Since 20 years Hindu teacher and since 6 years Muslim teacher working together. We have visited to that building and school teacher said, “We fought for school building and approached to SDMC, community people but they dint take care for this issue, so we have been adjusting with these situations” but it is a big harm to children future. Because all children has to sit in a single room and it is not convenient to teach them.

We played the re-creational games and sang songs by those children’s.

As a follower I got different kind of experience in URDU school. First time I entered in URDU medium school and their prayer system and in their language DUVA and these all new for me.

II. “Creating creative thing”

We all went to Govt. school near Unkal Lake and first we consulted to school teacher and introduced our self after that explained our intention to them. They gave permission to perform our activities.
WE gathered Vth, IVth and VIIth Children in hall for performing the activity, we taught them about doll making by using row material, how can we create things? They amazed by that doll and they told that, in home they will try to make it and show it to their teacher.

LEADERSHIP ACTIVITY 3

Feb. 1 2009

PULSE POLIO PROGRAMME
Gayatri, Jagdeesh as a leaders and Shekhar and myself as a follower we went to perform our leadership activities. Pulse polio programme on that day government has held on many schools, dispencires and in some general places.

We went to school and there were four KIMS nursing students we discussed with them, and with students we went to visit Homes and Informed family members to bring their childrens to school for immunisation. at one home their was a child he was mischevious and I hold him for some time after that his mummy tried to take him back its started to crying it was amazing for me how a baby caught our attention and attracted us.

We reached up to 80 families and in school there was a new experience for me, I involved in immunising a child.

According to our leader opinion we went to school, in that school Four members from KIMS nurcing institute volunteer were conducting pulse polio programme. First we both introduced. After that we have collected information reguarding polio programme-

  • Five year below children we can involve in this p.

  • Two droups are enough to a child for relieving from polio deseas.

  • After putting droups in childe mouth, paint that child left hand last finger.

  • This method is very helpful when they are going to find who din't take polio they can easely identfy and give polio dropouts.

First we approached to School Teacher for getting permission and he told he dint have authority to give permission to us. Than we asked from whom we have to take permission, he has given principle number Mahantesh has called on principle mobile number and took permission for performing activity.
While entering inside the school all Children excited to who were we, and some of them trying to listen our walking sound. According to their teacher instructions children gathered in particular place. Even though they blind but their inner eyes able to identify the spot where they had to gather.

Our COHORT-I fellows has performed some activities on that spot so it was easy to identify us to them, But their is a need of formal introduction. We introduced our self to Children and after us they introduced.
